   Wayne D. Greenstone

Wayne D. Greenstone, Esq.Wayne D. Greenstone practices with the firm of Gordon & Gordon, P.C. with the title "Of Counsel". Mr. Greenstone is one of the leading environmental lawyers in New Jersey and has served as Special Counsel to the Attorney General since 2004 in the prosecution of polluters for natural resource damages. He practices in the areas of environmental law and environmental litigation, and over the years has worked on a variety of toxic tort and environmental cases representing private citizens and environmental groups. Mr. Greenstone has been named as a Super Lawyer for 2009 by Law and Politics and the Publishers of New Jersey Monthly Magazine and has achieved the highest rating of AV from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

Mr. Greenstone was lead counsel for some 300 Essex County residents of Montclair, West Orange and Glen Ridge in one of the first cases in the state that succeeded in obtaining compensation for property damage caused by historic contamination from a former radium processing plant that disposed of radioactive waste in the early 20th century as fill upon which the plaintiffs’ houses were subsequently constructed.

As Special Counsel to the Attorney General representing the Department of Environmental Protection, Mr. Greenstone assisted in the recovery of on behalf of the citizens of New Jersey of natural resource damages from some of the largest companies in the country, including AT&T/Lucent, IBM and Reichhold Chemical Corporation. From 2004 until he joined Gordon & Gordon, Mr. Greenstone was part of a litigation team that sued ExxonMobil Corporation on behalf of the DEP for damage to natural resources resulting from the contamination caused by the operation of oil refineries and petrochemical plants in Linden and Bayonne. That litigation has led to several landmark legal rulings that have strengthened the ability of the State to seek the restoration of natural resources that have been damaged or destroyed by historic pollution.

Mr. Greenstone is a graduate of Amherst College, cum laude and received his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law, Newark, New Jersey.

In addition to his private practice, Mr. Greenstone has served on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Audubon Society since 1991, Chairman of the Board from 2002-2005, and Chairman of the Committee on Conservation and Research since 1992. In that capacity, he has assisted in the development of society positions and political strategy on many environmental issues, and has provided legal guidance for society litigation involving endangered species, clean water, land use and environmental regulation. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Hawk Migration Association of North America.
