Wayne D. Greenstone

Wayne D. Greenstone practices with the firm of Gordon & Gordon, P.C.
with the title "Of Counsel". Mr. Greenstone is one of the leading
environmental lawyers in New Jersey and has served as Special Counsel to
the Attorney General since 2004 in the prosecution of polluters for
natural resource damages. He practices in the areas of environmental law
and environmental litigation, and over the years has worked on a variety
of toxic tort and environmental cases representing private citizens and
environmental groups. Mr. Greenstone has been named as a Super Lawyer
for 2009 by Law and Politics and the Publishers of New Jersey Monthly
Magazine and has achieved the highest rating of AV from the
Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
Mr. Greenstone was lead counsel for some 300 Essex County residents
of Montclair, West Orange and Glen Ridge in one of the first cases in
the state that succeeded in obtaining compensation for property damage
caused by historic contamination from a former radium processing plant
that disposed of radioactive waste in the early 20th century as fill
upon which the plaintiffs’ houses were subsequently constructed.
As Special Counsel to the Attorney General representing the
Department of Environmental Protection, Mr. Greenstone assisted in the
recovery of on behalf of the citizens of New Jersey of natural resource
damages from some of the largest companies in the country, including
AT&T/Lucent, IBM and Reichhold Chemical Corporation. From 2004 until he
joined Gordon & Gordon, Mr. Greenstone was part of a litigation team
that sued ExxonMobil Corporation on behalf of the DEP for damage to
natural resources resulting from the contamination caused by the
operation of oil refineries and petrochemical plants in Linden and
Bayonne. That litigation has led to several landmark legal rulings that
have strengthened the ability of the State to seek the restoration of
natural resources that have been damaged or destroyed by historic
pollution.
Mr. Greenstone is a graduate of Amherst College, cum laude and
received his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law, Newark, New Jersey.

in the development of society positions and political strategy on many
environmental issues, and has provided legal guidance for society
litigation involving endangered species, clean water, land use and
environmental regulation. He is also a member of the Board of Directors
of the Hawk Migration Association of North America.
